Landry is still too over his threshold in his Puppy Class
or in his xpen at the FD class to listen or respond to very much.
Looking, sniffing, head cocked to the side and listening.
Anything we could or should be doing besides more exposure
and NOT asking when we know we won't get it?

Take him further and further back. Set up situations - take an expen to the base and set up in a distant parking lot. Show him that expens are places that he CAN pay attention

Ahhhhhhhhh. Yesterday we took him OUT of the x-pen and tried to work him there.

Then, show him that he can pay attention IN THE XPEN in the class, which, of course, he did!

With Beth outside the xpen and cueing/treating from there. Is that what you are saying?

Yes. Set him up with the expen as a place he can pay attention. Then move the pen closer and closer, and use it as a door. Pay attention IN, step out. Can't pay attention out? Go back in.

He has been to FD class twice now. In an xpen both times.

There are xpens available at his puppy class. They would give me one if I asked, I am sure.

Not using them for any of the puppies, however, except for puppy play.

Also not asking pups to do anything except look at each other, accept handling by strangers and intro to clicker.

Also note: puppy does not get to play with other pups UNTIL he pays attention. No going into class to play and then paying attention later.
