Yesterday Landry attended his first Puppy Class at the Humane Society. We got to the facility 30 minutes early. Landry was wearing both his collar and his new Sensible harness. The leash was attached to the harness.
He was able to give me focus and attention in the car - his Level 1 behaviors. Then we began the journey from car to building, through the building to the classroom, sniffing the classroom and meeting the assistants while waiting for the class to begin.
During this 30 minute period, he maintained a pretty loose leash actually. His body language was quite interesting. His tail was tucked tightly between his legs. This place was FULL of smells.
By the time the other puppies began arriving, though, his tail was up and he was very interested and almost surprised!
30 minutes into the class, which was a whole lot of relaxing and being fed (no clicker yet) his interest waned and he wanted to move. He began verbalizing with the 12 wk old Jack Russell puppy about 10' away, jumping up on me, pulling here and there and everywhere. An x-pen was put around us, draped w/sheets to block out the view of the other dogs. Although he didn't see them, he was in no mood to settle down.
I should have packed up and left. Instead, we did go outside but then returned. The remainder of the class was not beneficial. In fact, it was a lesson in frustration.
I think Mr Landry Man did a great job until he got over his threshold.
